The reunion of the Stockman and related families will be held in Silver City, New Mexico on 16, 17 and 18 July this year.
Friday: As has become traditional the family will gather at the home of Lee and Judy in the afternoon and evening to get acquainted and renew old friendships. Address is: #16 McKinley Street, call 505-388-4054 for directions and check at front desk of Motel for map.
Saturday: The family will congregate in a nice meeting room provided by the restaurant for the traditional auction and entertainment and then on Saturday evening the traditional Banquet will be held. Locations for these events will be available at the Friday gathering. Louisa Billings aka Judy Allen will entertain us with her life story, and we may have Billy the Kid’s school teacher and a Congressional Medal of Honor recipient to also educate and entertain us.
Sunday: The picnic at Little Walnut Picnic Area will conclude the reunion. Maps and directions available Friday and Saturday. Good weather guaranteed, what ever it may be!!
We have moved the reunion motel this year. Our former host, Mike Trumbull, has sold the motel were he met two years ago and the new operators have increased rates beyond what we feel is reasonable. The new motel we recommend is:

The Auction - a word for the new comers. We will have an auction of items brought by family members, funds raised will defray the cost of the reunion. Home canning, jams, jellies, and arts and craft items are always popular. Items from your home town, business or locality are also in demand. -//-
In this article consider the names Stockman and Stuckman to be interchangeable. In the records many times the name can be read one way or the other.
John Stockman of Fayette County, Pennsylvania first comes to our attention in 1800 when we find him living in Bedford county, PA, in the same township as Peter Stockman who has been identified as a son of Johannes Peter Stockmann and Anna Christina Christen, the immigrants. Both John and Peter’s names were recorded in 1800 as Stuckman.

The 1800 census provides a year of birth for John Stockman somewhere between 1774 and 1784. His wife was born between 1784 and 1794, the one son in the household was born after 1790 and the two daughters were also born after 1790. Family records of a David Stockman and Johnathan Stockman who were living in Ohio in 1840 tell us that they each had a father named John. The evidence indicates that this John Stockman was the father of the two boys, David and Johnathan Stockman. Since neither David nor Johnathan lived to see the 1850 census we are not able to determine which is the elder son. The wife of John Stockman was recorded in family records as Hanna Batchell.
By 1810 John Stockman has moved to Fayette County, PA and is living there in the same township as Martin Stockman who has also been identified as a son of Johannes Peter Stockmann and Anna Christina Christen, the immigrants. Johannes Martinus was an infant when his parents emigrated from Nassau-Siegen to Philadelphia in 1766 on the ship Polly.
The close association of John Stockman with two of the sons of Johannes Peter Stockman and Anna Christine Christen, leads one to presume that he is also a son, but no baptismal record or other evidence has been found at this time to prove this contention
. The History of Fayette County, Pennsylvania by Franklin Ellis, Philadelphia : L.H. Everts & Co., 1882, Page 490, has a list of the early settlers of Bullskin Township, and makes the following comments about John Stockman, “Further down Mounts’ creek among the early settlers were John Smutz, Martin Garver, and westward John Stockman, the latter being a Dunkard Preacher and a very estimable man. This place is now occupied by John Stoneacher.” It is interesting to note that Martin Garver, mentioned in this article, married Fanny Stockman, a sister to Martin Stockman and if our assumption is correct, of John Stockman.
On page 497 the History contains an added bit of information. “One of the first schools in the township was taught in a building near the Baptist Church. It was simply a log cabin but the school was well attended and for those times was considered very good. Pupils were in attendance from the Stoneacher, Shank, Newmeyer, Stockman, Latta, Shallenbarger, Highlands, Myers, Smutz, Garver and other families.”
The Census records for John and Martin Stockman read as follows.

The 1810 census tells us that John Stockman was born between 1765 and 1784, his wife was born between 1765 and 1784, one son was born after 1800 and one between 1796 and 1800, two daughters born after 1800 and two born between 1796 and 1800.
In 1820 John Stockman is still living in Fayette County, PA, enumerated on the same page of the census as Martin Stockman.

A short note of explanation is in order when the 1820 census records are interpreted. The column in which males ages 16-18 yrs are recorded was added to this census. Females were not enumerated in this age class. Any male enumerated in this age class was also enumerated in the 16-26 yrs age class. The result of this is that often the number of persons in the household in 1820 can be incorrectly interpreted. John Stockman had only two sons enumerated in this census. One was born between 1802 and 1804 and the other between 1794 and 1802. One daughter was born between 1810 and 1820 and two between 1804 and 1810. John and his wife were born prior to 1775. Incidentally, John was not indexed by Ancestry.com or Genealogy.com in this census and his record was found only by scrolling through the images of the 1820 census of Bullskin Township.
In 1830 John Stockman is enumerated in Fayette County, living near Martin Stockman.

The son David died in 1838 and in 1840 his widow, Ann Stuckman, was enumerated in Columbiana County, OH.
Ann and David had a large family but most of the sons were “farmed out” to work for neighbors and were not living at home.
In 1840 John Stockman, the son, has moved from Fayette County, PA and is also living in Columbiana County, OH.

The identification of the members of this Stockman family removes three more of the mystery Stockmans found in Pennsylvania when we began identifying the descendants of the known immigrant Stockmans. One remaining unknown Stockman who has not been placed into a family is Philip Stockman who, descendants claim was born in 1799 in Westmoreland County, PA. Philip married Sarah Drummond but no parents for him have yet been identified. It is possible that he may be part of the family of George Stuckman, another of the sons of Johann Peter Stockmann the immigrant. George Stuckman's family is not well known. -//-
During the now infamous half time show at the Super Bowl, a breath a sanity and beautiful music was injected into the proceedings in the form of a commercial production by Jim McMillen, son of Jim McMillen and Helen Taylor (Anthony Taylor, Ella Susan Stockman, {Christopher Columbus Stockman, Peter stockman} and {Laura N Stockman, Hardy Francis Stockman, Henry Stockman} Frederick Stockman and Katherine Disponet of the Texas Branch of the Family).
Jim who lives in Pasadena arranged the music for the NFL Super Bowl commercial that aired during the halftime show and featured NFL players singing "Tomorrow' from the musical "Annie.'
But this was only one of many musical productions that Jim has been involved with. He conducts the Crystal Cathedral Orchestra when the regular conductor is absent and can be seen on the Sunday TV show “Hour of Power” regularly.
Last December Jim arranged the music for an ESPN commercial touting bowl week college football games that was sung to the tune of "The Twelve Days of Christmas”. ESPN will be using this commercail for the next couple of years.
Last February he organized a concert honoring Charlie Parker, "Bird Lives,' for the Pasadena Jazz Institute and the Brehm Center for the Arts in honor of Black History Month. The concert ended with McMillen's tribute to Parker, an original composition called “You are the Night and the Music”. The show was reviewed by the Los Angles Times as “Sublime”. Father Jim reports that after only a couple of hours sleep, Jim was up the next morning, directed the orchestra at the Crystal Cathedral, and then helped Disney Productions with an arrangement problem. Father Jim adds, “You might say we’re proud of him.”
James Anthony McMillen was born In TX the youngest of Jim and Helen’s three children. He studied composition and was a graduate assistant at Cal State Northridge. An accomplished trombone player, he toured with blues great Clarence "Gate Mouth' Brown, plays on cruise ships, with Disneyland's Dixieland band, for Universal Studios, is a regular with the Crystal Cathedral band in Garden Grove and for years arranged music for Circus Vargas. He moved to California in 1982, and to Pasadena five years ago with his wife, Kathy. In a recent article by Emanuel Parker for the Pasadena, CA Paper, Jim is quoted as saying, “I lived in West Los Angeles 15 years and only saw my neighbors when they moved,” he said. “I like Pasadena because it has big-city opportunities and a small-town vibe. I've got the mountains in my back yard and a waterfall two miles away. I feel connected here.”-//-

As was reported in a previous issue of The Stockman Family Newsletter, When the 1920census enumeration was taken in Wichita Falls, Texas, incarcerated in the Jail, there, were Hardy and Ed Stockman (William Bonapart Stockman, Young Hardy Stockman, Hardy Francis Stockman, Henry Stockman, Frederick Stockman and Katherine Disponet of the Texas branch of the family and uncles to your humble editor!). At that time little was know about the circumstances of the high crimes and misdemeanors which lead to their arrest.
Hardy and Ed’s youngest sister, Rose, remembered that they had bought an old truck and were traveling around collecting scarp iron to salvage and in that manner able to support themselves. Well it seems that at some place in Texas they acquired some metal from a fellow and as luck would have it that metal had been stolen. This discovery resulted in their incarceration at a most inopportune time, just as the census taker was walking from cell to cell in the Wichita County, Jail!
Rose remembered that they were released when the full story of how the metal had come into their possession was known. The Wichita Daily Times , Wichita Falls, Texas in the 2 July 1920 issue reported the following:
It also become known Friday that the felony theft charges against Ed Stockman and Hardy Stockman had been dismissed upon recommendation of the District Attorney, insufficient evidence was the grounds for dismissal of the case, according to states attorneys
The paper reported on the case again in a summary of legal actions Wichita Daily Times 3 Mar 1921.
Number of Crime Cases are dismissed
Ed and Hardy Stockman charged with theft.

Last issue of the Newsletter listed all the Stockmans, Stuckmans and Steckmans enumerated in the 1790 census of the United States. This issue we have a compilation for the second Census of the United States.

Markette attended several of the reunions of the Stockman family. She was present at the first Silver City reunion when her mother, Tommie, won the award for the mother present who had the most children. Tommie and all members of the family are in our prayers.
<>Subscription Renewals> Several subscribers have asked recently about when they need to renew their subscriptions to The Stockman Family Newsletter. And the answer is....... Check the mailing label on your copy of this newsletter and if the Vol and Number shown there is equal to or less than that shown on this newsletter, namely Vol 17 No 3, then your subscription is expired. I am not mailing renewals and am not dropping subscribers who do not renew. For those who wish to pay for their subscription they may do so.
<>Reunion Invite> An invitation to the reunion of the Keesling family has been extended to the Stockman Family. Jacob Keesling (Kisling) and two older brothers were passengers on the Ship Fane with the ancestors of many of us Stockman descendants. Their 100th annual reunion is August 28-29. Saturday is at Memorial Park shelter in New Castle, Indiana. “We will have a pitch in lunch, auction, best cake/pie awards, most Keesling award (yes, multiple lines of the same family!), computers with genealogy, old picture scanning, and displays. Sunday we are going on a land, house, and cemetery tour.” Diane Brown president of the Keesling Family this year and your editor have been sharing information about the ship Fane. We, also, have extended an invitation to Keesling descendants to Join our reunion.
<>Reunion 2004> Reunion time is quickly approaching. We have heard from quite a few family members who have placed Silver City on their agenda for July. Jim and Helen McMillen, Bill and Betty Ann Maul, Richard Stockman, Joyce Armstrong who says a mob of the descendants of John Freeman Stockman will be here, including John and Sharon Stockman, of course Joyce and Jim Armstrong and Mary and Roy Goets if they can roundup enough loot to pay for the gasoline needed to roll their full time home on wheels to Silver City.
<> Judy and I are looking forward to seeing all of you.>
