Rebecca who married John George Stockman, Who was She?

      John George Stockman who was enumerated in Perry County, AL in 1850 was married to Rebecca. He proceeded her in death and in Nov 1866 at which time her estate was probated. Rebecca is referred to in all these documents and in deeds in which her husband sold land as Rebecca Stockman.

      The 1850 census of Perry County shows that she was born ca 1794 in South Carolina.

      Members of this branch of the family have believed that Rebecca’s maiden name was Hair, however, a recently discovered Power of Attorney (POA) places this name in question.

      On 24 April 1851Rebecca H Stockman and John G Stockman made Power of Attorney to Thomas L Wallace. They were in Perry County, AL at the time and the POA was for service in Edgefield Co, SC where it was recorded in book GGG Page 190-1.

                                of the County of Perry State of Alabama, her husband, have made, constituted, & appointed and by these presence do make, constitute & appoint Thomas L Wallace our true & lawful attorney for us & in our name to go the State of South Carolina and there to receive & pray for, or if need be demand & sue for, any & every account, money, property, or effects which may be due owing to the said Rebecca or to both of us from the estates of Deceased Brother John Pow or of that of Jacob Pow as administrator or executor of the said John Pow, or of Abhus Jones executor or administrator of one or both or either of the estates of John Pow or Jacob Pow late of Edgefield County, South Carolina to receive, to receive, demand or sue for, any sum or sums of money which may be due or coming one or both of us through or in the Court of Equity in said district, of the commissions thereof, & or any other per??? of any order or decree thereof, & to receive any sum of money due to one or both of us from any one, giving & granting unto our said attorney full & whole power & authority about the premises and generally to do & perform all & every act & acts, things, device & devices in the whatsoever needful & necessary to be dome in & about premises, and for us & in our names to do, execute & perform, as largely & amply, to all intents & purposes present and an Attorney or Attorneys under him for purposes aforesaid, to make & substitute. Hereby ratify & confirming all that our said attorney or his substitute or substitutes, shall lawfully do by virtue hereof

Leonard Neal “Pete” Buie - 1940-2000

      Leonard Neal Buie, known to all as Pete, was born 29 Mar 1940 in Tulare County, CA the third child of Henry Buie and Flossie Stockman (Leonard Shields Stockman, Young Leonard Stockman, William Henry Stockman, Hardy Francis Stockman, Henry Stockman, Frederick Stockman and Katherine Disponet of the Texas branch of the family).

      Pete graduated from Oakdale Join Union High School and then served in the United States Navy. Pete owned and operated the Red Barn in Tuttletown for 25 years. He was a member of the Sonora, CA, Elks Club, and the Tuolumne County Sportsman and enjoyed trap shooting at the Angles Gun Club. He was involved with the Kennedy Meadows Pack Boys, enjoyed rodeo and junior rodeo.

      Pete passed away 14 Jun 2000 at Memorial North Hospital.

      Pete is survived by his mother, Flossie Buie of Oakdale; CA, wife Katie Buie of Sonora; sons Danny (Christie) Buie of Kingsburg, Dennis Buie of Dinuba; stepson Kevin Stone of Jamestown; daughter Toni Buie of El Dorado Hills; brothers Gene Buie and Jerry Buie both of Oakdale; sister Mickey Passmore of Oroville; five grandchildren and three great grand children.

      Memorial services were held Wednesday, 21 Jun, at 1 PM at Terzich & Wilson Funeral Home in Sonora, CA; with a gathering afterward at the Sheriff’s posse grounds in Jamestown. The family requested donations to the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children in Sacramento, CA, or Infant Child Enrichment Service in Sonora, CA.-//-
